Kincentric Leadership in association with The Repatterning Collective is organising an learning series as part of a Co-creation with the More-than-Human sandbox. The ‘sandbox’ provides a virtual place for experiential learning, where we can shine a light on different approaches & explore their development and application, their workings, and future directions, to advance our understanding of and ability to genuinely co-create with the more-than-human.
The next session on April 9th will explore the practical applications of more-than-human design. More-than-human design goes beyond balancing human needs with those of other living beings—it also considers the trade-offs between the well-being of entire ecosystems and the needs of specific species or individual organisms. What benefits one may not always benefit the whole. Donna Haraway refers to this challenge as “staying with the trouble,” but when applied to concrete design projects, these dilemmas become tangible, requiring designers to make choices that inevitably prioritize some needs over others. Designing and making always involve trade-offs. This session will discuss methods and concepts that designers are developing to navigate these complexities.
Our speaker Anton Poikolainen Rosén is a postdoctoral researcher in Human-Computer Interaction at the Department of Computer and System Sciences, Stockholm University. He studies design for sustainable futures and the more-than-human world. His research themes include farming and waste management from critical, circular and multisensory perspectives. Anton is co-editor of the book More-than-Human Design in Practice, which he worked with during his postdoc at the Department of Design, Aalto University, Helsinki.
